SEED-connect.be

1. What means SEED-connect?

SEED actually stands for Service Externe – Externe Dienst. And “connect” already indicates it: it is about connecting to the (databases) of the external services for prevention and protection at work.

2. The origin

External services for prevention and protection at work collect a lot of information. Traditionally, this information was of course available in paper files, but in the last 2 decades it has become increasingly digitized.

This is how the idea arose to work on the optimization of mutual data exchange on the one hand, and on the other hand, to make the collected data more accessible for, for example, government services (such as the FANC, Fedris, FPS Mobility), health insurance companies, doctors and last but not least , the workers themselves.

After an analysis of the existing systems, the desired functionalities and the current possibilities, it was decided that an exchange platform based on the model of the Crossroads Bank for Social Security was the most appropriate course of action.

3. The platform

The platform is a generic question-answer system, where information can be exchanged between external prevention services and interested third parties on the basis of pre-agreed structured exchange protocols.

The SEED-connect.be platform was developed by the sector organisation Co-Prev, and was financed by all external prevention services together. An ICT developer was called in for the development, ACA IT-Solutions.

The platform is hosted on Apache Tomcat servers and uses, among other things, OpenDJ, OpenAM (to make abstraction of the various authentication options. For example, it will be possible to authenticate against an ldap, using SAML or via AD Federation), Jboss Fuse , AngularJS as front-end technology with full html5 and css3 support.

4. Evolution

The intention is to step by step develop and roll out the functionalities, being the question-answer combinations. In principle, a functionality will always be made available as soon as a sufficient response can be guaranteed.
